What a cut is, and how the four cuts differ

A cut is the base pattern block a garment is drafted on before any print or logo is added. The same jersey design can be cut on a men's block, a women's block, a unisex block or a youth block, and each block sets the shoulder width, chest-to-hip ratio, body length, sleeve length and neckline depth. The artwork does not change; the shape underneath it does.

For a buyer, the point is that a women's small is not a men's extra-small relabelled. It is a different block, and ordering it as such is what fits the whole squad rather than half of it.

Choosing the cut for your buyer type

The right cut depends on who wears the garment and how it is sold, not on the sport. A football club with a men's first team and a women's section needs two blocks under one design. A gym selling member merch across the counter usually wants unisex tees and hoodies plus a women's block for leggings and crop tops. A dancewear brand rarely needs a men's block at all.

Grading one artwork across cuts and sizes

Grading is the step where a single approved artwork is resized to fit every size of every cut without redrawing it. For sublimated garments the print file is laid onto each graded pattern piece, so the stripe, gradient or sponsor panel lands in the same place on a youth small and an adult 3XL. For embroidered crests and heat-applied logos the logo itself stays a fixed size, and only its position is adjusted so it sits on the chest rather than drifting towards the shoulder on smaller pieces.

Names and numbers are handled by the same rule. Number height is usually kept constant across adult sizes and reduced once for the youth block so a number does not run off the back of a small shirt. The names, numbers and sponsor logos page describes the sublimated and applied options.

ZipaSports carries out pattern making and size grading on computer, then cuts fabric on computer-controlled equipment, so the graded set is repeatable on a reorder. The approved mockup shows the design on one size; the grading rules are recorded with the order so every other size follows it. If a design uses a placement that will not scale cleanly, such as a large chest graphic on a youth extra-small, the studio flags it at mockup stage rather than in production.

Size ranges and measurement tolerance

ZipaSports offers adult sizes XS–5XL, women's sizes XS–4XL and youth or children's sizes, and every finished garment is checked against the approved size specification with a tolerance of ±1–1.5 cm on the main measurements. That tolerance is the normal variation of cut-and-sew production on knitted fabric; it is not a defect and it is the same figure the Quality Guarantee uses as its boundary.

A garment outside that tolerance against the approved specification is a wrong-size defect. A garment inside it that a player finds tight or loose is a sizing choice, which is why the size sheet, not the wearer's opinion, is the reference.

Custom size charts: when to use one and what to send

A custom size chart replaces the factory's standard block measurements with your own, and it is worth doing when you already sell a fit your customers know, when your squad is consistently outside standard proportions, or when you are matching an existing kit from another supplier. Startup brands use it most; clubs and schools usually stay on standard charts and mix sizes instead.

What the pattern room needs is a table of finished-garment measurements per size, not body measurements, because finished measurements already include the ease you want. State the measuring method for each point, for example chest measured 2.5 cm below the armhole seam laid flat, and give the units. If you only have a garment you like, send it or send its flat measurements and the studio will draft a chart from it.

A physical sample in 5–7 days, charged at sample cost and credited against the bulk order, is the way to prove a custom chart before cutting a run; a size set across several sizes is the same service extended to more than one piece.

Mixing cuts and sizes inside one design

The minimum order at ZipaSports is 20–25 pieces per design, lower on request, with no MOQ limit for sportswear brands and companies, and cuts do not split that minimum. A design is the artwork and colourway; the cut and size underneath it are a breakdown of the same design. One home jersey ordered as twelve men's, eight women's and five youth pieces is a single design of 25 pieces.

What does count as a separate design is a change to the print or colour: an away colourway, a different sponsor panel or a goalkeeper variant is its own design with its own minimum. Keep that distinction in mind when planning a range, because a startup brand that wants three colourways of one legging is ordering three designs.

Mixed cuts affect the production sheet, not the timeline. The 15–25 business day bulk lead time after design approval, or 7–12 days on express, is the same whether an order is all men's medium or spread across four blocks and fourteen sizes. Which garments come in which cuts

Not every garment is offered in every block, because some products are built for one body shape and others are unisex by construction. The table below lists the usual availability; if a combination is missing, ask, as many can be drafted from a custom chart.

How ZipaSports handles cuts from mockup to delivery

The cut question is settled early at ZipaSports in Sialkot, Pakistan so it never becomes a production problem. At enquiry the studio asks which blocks you need and returns the free digital mockup within 24 hours. Once artwork is approved you send a size sheet listing pieces per cut and size, plus names and numbers if used; that sheet is the specification production cuts to and QC measures against.

In production each cut is cut and sewn as its own bundle, then reunited under the same order for labelling and packing. Woven neck labels and printed size tags can carry the cut on the label, for example W-M or Y-10, which saves a coach sorting a delivery on a pitch.
