Gi, no-gi or both: the discipline matrix
Academies order a gi programme, a no-gi programme or a striking programme, and MMA gyms usually run two. The table shows what each discipline typically orders, the fabric options, and where the crest sits.

Kids, teens and adults in one student pack
Mixed sizes within one design count towards the same minimum, so a first BJJ intake of 22 gis can be six children's sizes, ten teen or small adult sizes and six large adult sizes without triggering a second MOQ. This is the single most useful rule for an academy, because a new intake never arrives in neat size groups.
Gi sizing uses the numbered size systems most academies already teach parents to read, with kids' sizes and adult sizes graded from your own chart or ours. Rash guards, spats and instructor wear are graded youth through adult XS–5XL. For a new academy we recommend a size set: one gi in each size sent as a physical sample in 5–7 days at sample cost, credited against the bulk order, so the front desk can fit students before the main run is cut.
Two gi details are written on every spec sheet. First, shrinkage: cotton gis shrink after the first hot washes, so we state whether the fabric is pre-shrunk and how to specify measurements against the size chart. Second, trouser weight: 8–12 oz ripstop for lighter kids' trousers, twill for adult training trousers that take knee-slide wear. Measurement checks against the approved size specification happen before packing.
Belts, patches and the academy crest
The academy crest is the part of the order that has to match across every garment, so we digitise it once and reuse the same embroidery file on gi jackets, patches, belts and polos. Send the crest as a vector file (AI, EPS or PDF); if you only have a photo of a sign, the free design service redraws it and returns a mockup within 24 hours.
- Embroidery direct on the gi: multi-head embroidery on the chest, back, shoulder or trouser leg, in the club's thread colours, stitched before assembly so the backing sits flat.
- Patches: embroidered patches with a merrowed or laser-cut edge, either sewn on in the factory or supplied loose so the academy can stitch them on when a student passes a grading.
- Belts: cotton belts in the rank colours your syllabus uses, with the academy name or student name embroidered on one tail. State the belt sizes by gi size or by length.
- Woven neck labels and size tags: your academy's own label in the gi and rash guard, so students see the school name and not a factory name.

Academy orders follow the training calendar, so the timeline runs from the day you send a brief to the day kit reaches the front desk. Reorders skip the sample stage because the approved files are kept on record.

Grading days are the deadlines academies plan around; tell us the date and we work the production slot back from it. Starter packs are usually reordered per intake; established academies that run a regular programme can reorder below the 20–25 piece minimum on request, and academies that trade as a brand with their own label have no MOQ limit.
Instructor polos, hoodies and the front-desk shop
Instructor and coach wear is ordered in the same run as the student kit so the crest, colours and labels match. Polos are the usual instructor garment: polyester piqué at 160–200 GSM for a lighter mat-side shirt, or poly-cotton piqué at 200–240 GSM where the academy wants a heavier, more formal front-desk look. Embroidery on the left chest with the instructor's rank or name on the sleeve is the standard build.
Many academies also run a small shop for members. Hoodies in cotton-polyester fleece at 280–350 GSM with a screen-printed or embroidered crest, training tees with a DTF or screen-printed back print, sublimated rash guards in the academy colours and kit bags in 600D polyester are the pieces that sell at reception. What weight should a kids' BJJ gi be?
Lighter pearl weave from the 350–550 GSM range is the usual choice for children, paired with 8–12 oz ripstop trousers, because the jacket is easier to move in and dries faster. Adult training gis sit higher in the same range. State the age groups in the brief and we recommend a weight per group.
Can you embroider our academy crest on the gi and on the belts?
Yes — the crest is digitised once and the same embroidery file is used on gi jackets, trousers, patches, belt tails and instructor polos, so the school name matches across every garment. Vector artwork is preferred; a photo of an existing crest can be redrawn by the free design service.

What if a gi arrives with a stitching or embroidery fault?
