The convention in baseball is a light uniform for home games and a grey or coloured uniform on the road, with an alternate jersey in a club colour for special fixtures. Leagues differ on how strictly this is enforced, so check the competition handbook before approving a mockup, particularly for pinstripes, which some youth leagues treat as a home-only design.

A club that orders a white home button-down and a grey road version in the same season gets both from the same pattern, so a player's size is identical across sets and a number reads the same from the outfield. Colours are matched to a Pantone reference at the mockup stage and kept on file. When the club adds an alternate jersey a season later, the studio pulls the same file, so a navy approved in the first order is the same navy on the third.

Youth grading, mixed sizes and top-ups during the season

A baseball order almost always mixes sizes, and often mixes age groups. A club that runs a T-ball side, a little-league side and a senior side sends three rosters and can keep the design identical across all three, with only the crest colour or the sponsor changing.

Players join mid-season. Because the approved artwork, colour references and size specification stay on file, a top-up of a few jerseys can be quoted on request below the minimum and is produced to the same specification. Season timeline: work back from opening day
