Which garments does a basketball club actually order?

A basketball club buys a game uniform per team first, then warm-up and travel wear, and the order is nearly always mixed across age groups. What fabric and GSM are basketball uniforms made in?

Basketball uniforms are made in 100% polyester mesh at 140–180 GSM, and the choice within that range depends on where and how often the kit is worn. An indoor league in Canada or the UK playing one fixture a week can take the heavier end for a fuller drape on the jersey; a club in Australia or the southern United States running summer tournaments usually wants the lighter, more open mesh so the jersey dries between games.

Off-court garments follow different weights: shooting shirts in interlock, warm-up jackets and trousers in performance polyester fleece at 240–300 GSM or cotton-polyester fleece at 280–350 GSM, and compression base layers in polyester-spandex at 240–300 GSM with 12–20% elastane. Every sublimated fabric is checked for wash- and colour-fastness before it is cut, and GRS-certified recycled polyester is available on request for clubs with a sustainability policy.

Sublimated, tackle twill or heat-applied numbers?

Basketball is one of the few team sports where a club may reasonably choose between sublimated numbers and stitched tackle twill, so ZipaSports offers both. Sublimation prints the number into the mesh in the same pass as the rest of the design; tackle twill stitches cut fabric letters onto the jersey for a raised, traditional look and is usually chosen by clubs that want a college-style uniform. Heat-applied vinyl numbers are a third option for plain training kit that needs numbering after delivery.

A club can mix methods within one order: sublimated youth uniforms and tackle twill senior jerseys are a common combination, with the same crest and Pantone references across both.

Where numbers, names and sponsors go on a basketball uniform

Most basketball competitions require the player number on both the front and the back of the jersey, with the back number larger, and many restrict the digits a team may use, so the club should check its league handbook before sending the number list. ZipaSports places the front number on the chest or off-centre under the club name, and the back number centred with the player name above it if names are wanted.

Sponsor logos on a basketball jersey usually sit on the upper chest beside the front number, on the back below the number, or on the shorts leg, and warm-up jackets carry larger sponsor prints on the back. Reversible sets or two uniforms, and the light and dark rule

Basketball leagues generally require the home team in a light uniform and the visiting team in a dark one, or the reverse, so every club needs both a light and a dark option. There are two ways to buy that. A reversible jersey gives both colours in one garment and suits youth teams, recreational leagues and clubs with tight kit budgets, because one set covers every fixture. Two separate uniforms give a heavier single-layer jersey with a cleaner finish and matching shorts for each colour, and are what senior and representative teams usually choose.

The general rule is that the light uniform should be mostly white or a pale colour and the dark uniform a saturated club colour, with numbers in a contrasting colour that officials can read from the scorer's table. Youth grading, women's cuts and mixed sizes within the minimum

The 20–25 piece minimum applies per design, not per size, so a basketball club can spread one uniform design across youth, women's and men's sizes in a single run. Adult sizes run XS to 5XL, women's XS to 4XL and youth sizes cover the age groups a club typically fields, with jersey length and armhole graded down so an under-12 jersey does not hang like a cut-down adult one.

Women's uniforms are cut on their own block with a shorter body, narrower shoulder and a shorter shorts inseam option. Youth uniforms keep the same sublimated artwork at a scaled print size, so the crest and sponsors look proportionate on a small chest, and ZipaSports grades the number height with the jersey size.

Sizing is the single biggest source of problems in club orders, so ZipaSports sends a size chart with the mockup and recommends that the club measures chest and body length rather than collecting each player's usual size. A physical sample in the most common size can be produced in 5–7 days, charged at sample cost and credited against the bulk order, and a size set is worth ordering for a first-time club with many junior teams. Every finished garment is measured against the approved specification at final QC.

Season timeline: from committee approval to first tip-off

A basketball club should count back from its first league fixture using the lead times below. ZipaSports' bulk production is 15–25 business days after design approval, and the production clock starts only when the size breakdown and number list are confirmed, so the club's own sign-off time needs to be allowed for.

What the club sends, and how reorders work

The first message to ZipaSports does not need finished artwork. A photo of last season's jersey, the crest and the team list are enough for the studio to build a mockup within 24 hours; the rest is gathered before production starts.

Every approved file is kept: artwork, Pantone references, number fonts, crest digitising and the size specification. A new player mid-season or a new under-14 team next year is added from the same files, so the jersey matches the rest of the squad.
