Who this page is for, and what a golf club actually orders

This page is for whoever has been handed the kit job at a golf club: the match secretary, the society captain who tours once a year, the junior organiser, or the committee member who wants the ladies' section in the club colours. ZipaSports has made club apparel in Sialkot, Pakistan since 2005, and golf orders are among the most varied we handle because the garments are worn in the clubhouse as much as on the course.

A golf order is built around the polo and then layered. The table lists what we see most often, with fabric option and decoration; each item links to its page on our golf range.

Polo fabrics and GSM: which piqué to choose for a golf club

The piqué you choose decides how the polo feels, drapes and washes. Options at ZipaSports include polyester piqué at 160–200 GSM and poly-cotton piqué at 200–240 GSM; both are available in men's, women's and junior patterns.

Polyester piqué at 160–200 GSM is the performance choice. It wicks sweat, dries between holes, holds its colour and does not shrink over a season. It is also the fabric to choose if any part of the design will be sublimated.

Poly-cotton piqué at 200–240 GSM has more weight and a softer, traditional hand. Societies that wear the polo at the annual dinner as well as on the course tend to choose it. It takes embroidery very cleanly.

Beyond the polo, the fabric vocabulary is straightforward. Quarter-zip midlayers use performance polyester fleece at 240–300 GSM; club hoodies use cotton-polyester fleece at 280–350 GSM; base-layer tops use polyester-spandex four-way stretch. Embroidery, sublimation or heat transfer: choosing decoration for golf wear

Golf is an embroidery sport first. Multi-head embroidery is the method for crests, monograms and sponsor marks on polos, midlayers, gilets, caps and shoe bags. Where a club wants a patterned polo, an all-over design or a colour-blocked panel in exact club colours, sublimation on polyester piqué or interlock is the route, because the dye becomes part of the fabric and cannot crack or peel. Heat transfer and DTF cover sponsor logos on rain shells, where embroidery would puncture the waterproof membrane.

Methods combine in one order: embroidered polo crest, sublimated caddie bibs, heat-transferred sponsor on the rain jacket; each garment is quoted with its own decoration.

Crests, sponsor logos, initials and names: where they go on golf apparel

Placement on a golf polo follows a settled convention, which we use on the mockup unless told otherwise. The club crest goes on the left chest. A sponsor mark, if the team or society has one, goes on the right chest or the right sleeve. A second sponsor or a tour name and year sits on the back yoke. A player's initials or surname can be embroidered on the cuff, the hem or the right chest below the sponsor; this is golf's version of names and numbers, and the list is supplied as described on our names, numbers and sponsor logos page.

Sponsor logos are part of the decoration quote for the garment, not a per-logo add-on; what we need is the logo file in vector form (AI, EPS or PDF) so the embroidery can be digitised cleanly. A club that changes sponsor between seasons keeps its polo and only the right-chest embroidery changes.

Caps and visors take the crest on the front panel and a sponsor or initials on the side or rear. Shoe bags and towels take one embroidered crest. Sublimated caddie bibs can carry the player's name large on the back for inter-club matches and finals days.

Mixed sizes, the ladies' section and junior grading in one order

The 20–25 piece minimum at ZipaSports is per design, not per size, and one design means one polo style in one colourway with one decoration layout. Within it a club can spread the quantity across any mix of adult sizes XS–5XL, women's XS–4XL and junior sizes. A scratch team of ten men, six ladies and six juniors in the same club polo is one design of 22 pieces, provided the crest and colours are the same on each. Lower quantities are possible on request for a small society, so tell us the real headcount rather than rounding it up.

The women's polo is a separate pattern with a shaped side seam, a shorter body and a different collar stand; it is not a men's small. The junior polo is graded from the youth chart. Both are cut and decorated in the same batch as the men's, so the colour is from the same dye lot.

For sizing, we send the size chart for each pattern with the mockup. Most clubs measure a well-fitting polo that a member already owns and compare chest and body length against the chart; clubs that want certainty order a physical sample in the two or three sizes in question. Samples take 5–7 days, are charged at sample cost and credited against the bulk order.

Match colours, tour colours and alternate polos: the general rules

Golf has no formal home-and-away rule, but inter-club matches, county fixtures and society tours all run into the same practical need: two colourways of the same polo. The primary colour is the club colour and is what the team wears at home. The alternate is a contrasting colour, usually white, navy or a lighter shade, worn away when the host club's colours are close to yours, and worn on the second day of a tour so photographs and prize-giving pictures show two distinct days. Some societies order a colour per day for a longer trip, which works provided each colourway meets the per-design quantity or is agreed at a lower number.

Where the polo body colour is dark, the crest is stitched in the light version of the club colours and the reverse for light polos; we prepare both crest colourways at the mockup stage so the committee approves them together. Any Pantone reference can be matched, and the approved references, crest files and digitised embroidery are kept on record so a second-season order is the same colour as the first.

Captains often want the alternate colourway with their title embroidered under the crest; that is a decoration change within the same order, not a new design.

Season planning: a timeline that works backwards from the first match or tour

Golf clubs usually order before the match season and again before the tour or club championship. The common mistake is approving the design in good time and then taking weeks to collect member sizes; the size list starts production, so gather it during the mockup stage.

Eight weeks is comfortable; six works if the club skips the sample and returns sizes quickly. Below that, express production at 7–12 days is the lever, and we say before confirming whether a date can be met.

What the club secretary or society captain sends us

A golf brief is shorter than a football one because there are no squad numbers, but the crest file matters more: embroidery cannot tidy a blurred logo. Send the first four items and the mockup follows within 24 hours.

Initials come in on the size spreadsheet, and each polo is bagged and labelled with the member's name and size for handing out.

Reorders, shipping to the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Europe, and the Quality Guarantee

New members join through the year, so reorders matter. Because crest digitising, colour references and pattern are kept on file, a reorder is a size list and a confirmation, and matches the original batch within normal dye-lot tolerance. Lower quantities are possible on request for top-ups.
